3 Reasons Not to Migrate Dynamics to Azure

Is your business still finding reasons to put off migrating to Azure? We all put our heads together to come up with justifiable reasons why a business wouldn’t want to move to the Cloud, and as you will see, we struggled!

Whatever your excuse may be, we are here to debunk it and show you how, with proper planning and help from people who have done it before, you can ensure a successful jump to the Azure Cloud.

Here are the 3 reasons why you should “Just Say No” to Dynamics in the Cloud

1. Your business prefers to handle Capital Expenses (CapEx) rather than Operational Expenses (OpEx).

While we see that most businesses prefer the flexibility of OpEx costs, it won’t necessarily be true for everyone.  If your business is better at handling up-front capital expenditures, then perhaps running in the cloud doesn’t sound right for you despite the added benefits of scalability, security and durability that it brings.

Now, let us debunk the myth of CapEx being preferable to OpEx when it comes to software and Cloud deployment. Hardware reaches its end of life at some point, which means replacements require a big investment eventually. Even if your hardware miraculously lives forever, you can reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of your Dynamics application as fewer resources are needed to keep it running. This moves CapEx costs of the application to OpEx on your balance sheet while also making the application SaaS-ready. The benefits of an OpEx Cloud-based SaaS-ready solution? You pay for what you use, whether it be higher or lower each month- allowing for ultimately flexibility and ROI.

Still not convinced that running an OpEx-based business is for you? A cloud provider will be able to calculate the TCO so you can compare this to your current on-premises/in-house costs (including hardware and software + replacements, power, personnel, support, and training), so you can clearly see what you will gain from migrating. Working with a specialist Dynamics Cloud provider also frees up IT staff and allows you to focus on your core business while the experts can help you assess the situation and design a tailor-made migration strategy for your particular business.

And one more reason to work with an experienced Dynamics on Azure provider: the initial costs of setting up a Cloud deployment can seem expensive at first. The cost of moving your business into the future is justifiable and with the guidance of people that know what they’re doing and have done it before, you can better understand why and where the costs are going and contain them. With the flexibility of Dynamics in the Cloud, there also comes an abundance of tooling to tailor your application such as storage options, disaster recovery, database and security options. All of these options will have to be properly configured to see the true cost saving abilities of an Azure deployment. When making the shift, it pays to work with a specialist who can help ensure cost-savings during the migration, support and continuous development processes.

2. Your workforce is anchored to one device and one location.

It’s near impossible to find an employee who is only running on one device, or even on multiple devices from only one location. If someone told you that was true, you would either not believe them or worry about the future of said business. But this could still be a reason not to migrate, so let’s debunk it!

The age of global business has been long upon us, Cloud computing and Azure-based software is here to make it easier! By default, Cloud computing can provide easy access to business data and applications, anywhere, anytime, on any device. To achieve flexibility of workforce, globalization and digital transformation employees must be able to access Cloud-based applications. It’s a rarity in today’s globalized business and consumer atmosphere to still be completely isolated.

Perhaps you think your business is still “too small” to attempt a migration to Azure right now. Smaller businesses may actually have the advantage here when it comes to streamlining their Cloud journey (shhh, don’t tell the big guys!). Less devices and fewer locations mean any possible issues that arise can be pin-pointed and remedied quickly before a full launch. In addition, a smaller job also means you will have the total flexibility to grow once deployed and architected to perfection. And lastly, a smaller business could also mean there may be less political hoops to jump through, leading to a shorter overall migration timeline.

Still not convinced that an application accessible at any time, from anywhere, or from any device is right for your business? It can be frightening to think “big”, especially if you’re not sure that your business is ready for it. But ERPs are mission-critical business applications that should always be on, which means taking on the responsibility to always have it up and running. A specialized Cloud provider will take over that responsibility from you, even offering application uptime guarantee.

3. Increased security, scalability and lifetime of your application do not outweigh the hassle of migration.

Okay, we know this one is a bit of a stretch, but we are unashamedly pretty pro-Cloud here at SaaSplaza. We have addressed the fact that migration can be a rather daunting feat, but we’re also proud to debunk this myth by saying again that it doesn’t need to be. By changing your focus from the difficulties that could be encountered to how to overcome them, the sooner your business will start benefitting from migrating to Azure.

Why is the Cloud a safe choice when it comes to security? Part of it is due to regulatory systems set up to ensure safety and security, such as SOC 1 Type II. For instance, SaaSplaza is audited every year, independently, on the security of our processes and employees. In addition, Azure itself holds an extensive set of security and privacy certifications, and the Cloud offers reliable options for disaster recovery and business continuity; data that is in the Cloud is easy to backup and store securely.

How can you benefit from its scalability? With on-premises installations, adding more users or business entities often means investing in additional hardware. Cloud is far more flexible and capable of scaling up and down, based on your business requirements, and without enlisting an entire IT division. Not only in the case that companies grow organically or by acquisition, but also for temporarily increased seasonal demands or reporting requirements. Even with peak or low times during the day, intelligent tooling in Cloud computing can spin on extra servers or switch off capacity that isn’t needed. On Public Cloud infrastructure, such as Microsoft Azure, you will benefit from a Cloud Services Provider who can manage your consumption costs by scaling your resources down when their use is not required. Thus, you pay for what you need and never run out of capacity. It’s not just the scalability but the fact that it’s automatic that is a game changer when it comes to the Cloud.

Still not convinced that a virtually limitless lifespan application deployment is for you because of the hassle it will take to get there? Then also consider the fact that going through this process could be the most important thing you do for your company, solely based on improved performance. On the Azure Cloud, you get the benefit of the latest server and network technology most suited for your Dynamics AX workloads. Especially when you team up with specialist Cloud Service Providers, you benefit from getting the expertise of a full IT-staff without the high costs. By outsourcing the hassle, your staff can focus on innovation and creating value for your core business.
